    Doug Roth

Doug works as a Jet aircraft salesman for Duncan Aviation. He and his wife Chris live in Lincoln and have 2 grown children Nick and Julie, Julie and husband Jessy are busy raising Grandsons Malcolm and Emmett.

Well over 6000 hours of flight time, he is Multi-engine, Commercial and Airline Transport rated.  He is a certified Flight instructor and has type ratings in the Cessna 525 and 550 models, DC3’s, Learjets and Helicopters.

Doug has been competing in Regional aerobatic competitions for 25 years, 10 of that at the Unlimited level.

His airplane is the Staudacher “Superstar” a 350 hp monoplane.  Powered by a 6 cylinder, fuel injected 540 ci engine. This airplane was custom built by John Staudacher, this is 1 of only 3 built. It has a top speed of 260 mph, Roll rate of 420 degrees per second and is stressed for +9/-9 g’s.

The airplane design was originally conceived and built to compete with the Russian Sukois and German Extra aircraft in Unlimited World competition.

    Tom "Lark" Larkin

As a child, he was afraid of roller coasters and often got air sick in airplanes.  Started flying lessons at age 19 while in college, and got his private pilots license in 62 days.  Earned an Aerospace Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, and then entered the Air Force for pilot training in 1984.  Top Graduate in F-15 school and flew 22 missions in North Iraq in support of Operation Northern Watch, and was Instructor in the Air Force in the Fighter Lead-In School in the AT-38.  Left active duty in 2000, and now resides in Denver.   He is a pilot and instructor in the 737 for a major airline.  He has a wife of 28 years and a set of twins that are thankfully done with college!  Tom has also participated in aerobatic competitions in the Christen Eagle and the Staudacher (a high performance monoplane similar to the airplanes you see on the Red Bull circuit).  He now performs exclusively in the SubSonex Mini Jet.  Tom has over 9,000 hours total time as a pilot, with approximately 8,000 hours of that in jet aircraft.

    Promo Shot.jpg

The plane is a modified SubSonex Mini Jet.  The SubSonex is an Experimental Jet that comes as a kit from the Sonex factory in Oshkosh, WI.  It weighs 500 lbs, goes up to 300 mph, and it is fully aerobatic.  This particular aircraft was the first kit ever sold and flown, and it has been flying for approximately 2 years.  The jet is powered by the PBS TJ-100 engine from the Czech Republic, and at full throttle it is capable of producing 258 lbs of thrust while burning 40 gallons/hr of jet fuel. As beautiful as the jet is, there is no paint on it. It is completely wrapped in a vinyl covering, similar to a show car.

During the show, Tom will be performing a cross section of maneuvers that he routinely used while instructing and flying fighters in the Air Force.  The smoke system is custom made for this jet, and it uses approximately 7 gals of smoke oil during it's routine.  Mini Jet Airshows is the culmination of a 30+year dream to own and fly a Mini Jet in airshows.
